"Royal Fort House was built on the site of the Royal Fort, so named when Prince Rupert of the Rhine was made Governor of Bristol. The house was completed in 1756 for a wealthy merchant, Thomas Tyndall, and still has fine examples of Rococo wood carving and plasterwork.
