"Rydal Mount & Gardens is situated between Ambleside and Grasmere and was the home of William Wordsworth and his family between 1813 - 1850. Rydal Mount was once a small farm cottage built in the middle of the sixteen [16] century, later it would be extended and improved. Within the house you can see in the dining room the original oak beams and the flagged floor, also can be seen are various rooms along with the bedrooms and Wordsworth attic study. Portraits, personal possessions and the first editions of the poet's work can be seen.The gardens have hardly changed for over hundred and fifty [150] years and were designed by Wordsworth himself. The gardens having a blend of various shrubs and different colours in season, you can see the mount or mound from which the house gets its name from with views down Lake Windermere and beyond."
