In the new year on 1996 this elegant Georgian playhouse became the first British theatre to be granted a licence to hold civil wedding ceremonies from its stage. The auditorium has been compared to a wedding cake ? with its tiers of ornate plasterwork, sumptuous red and gilt decoration. The magestic trompe l?oeil ceiling and glittering chandelier provide a fairytale setting for a dramatic wedding. There is seating for as many as 900 guests, although the intimate horseshoe auditorium is also ideal for a smaller affair. Guests don?t even have to leave the building if the Theatre?s 1805 Rooms are used for the reception. This private suite of rooms makes a delightful venue in which to entertain.
