Four generations ago, the Mawdsley family were basket manufacturers and the building was known as Towngate Basket Works. In 1982, 20 years after it closed as a basket works, the building was renovated and the impressive eating establishment was created. The enormous popularity of the restaurant led to the development of the full hotel, conference and function facilities. with great care being taken to preserve the character, intimacy and attention to detail.
