“ We really want a jazz pianist for our event! “ Good idea, but what do you mean
by a 'Jazz pianist', and do you want just instrumental or do you want a vocalist
who accompanies themselves on piano?
Jazz is a very wide ranging style of music, from Scott Joplin Rags to modern
jazz with its distinctive and very different sound. Normally the jazz pianist
would bring their own instrument to the event in your area in the form of an
electric piano / high quality piano keyboard. Occasionally a venue would have a
good quality real piano, and if this is the case the pianist would normally be
happy to play this. But unless it is a good quality instrument properly
maintained and tuned, then the pianist would play their own instrument. Some of
the Jazz Pianists included also do vocals with piano accompaniment.
