Knottingley is at the junction of the A1(M) and the M62 in West Yorkshire. It is east of Wakefield and south east of Leeds. Knottingley is on the River Aire and was a river port until the end of the 17th century. It was also known for glass making.
The landscape around Knottingley is dominated by the cooling towers of the Ferrybridge Power Stations, of which only three of the orignal eight still stand.
